Magical Leaves

rachel patterson, leaves, into the wilds

If a leaf is big enough it can be used to write wishes and petitions on that can be sent away on the winds, buried in the earth, dropped into running water or burnt in the fire.

Beautiful bounty of berries

The hedgerows are full to bursting with berries at this time of year.  Blackberries you can eat straight from the bush (but not if you are near a main road, probably best to avoid those ones), elderberries can be made into syrups, cordials and of course…wine.  And hawthorn berries are excellent to work magic with.

Making a local connection

wyldwood, wyld witch, rachel patterson

For me, it is about connecting to the land around you.   I don’t live in a tumble-down cottage in the middle of the woods (seriously none of the takeaways deliver…), I do in fact live on the edge of a city.  But the land around me and beneath my feet is ancient.  It has a house on now (obviously) and had dwellings on it before, going back for a very long time.  And the land holds those memories.  There is not only the element of earth beneath our feet but also the history of our ancestors.
