Kitchen Witchcraft – Spells and Charms by Rachel Patterson

It’s no secret I’m a great fan of Rachel’s work. Her books are a delight to read, whether you’re a witch or not. This title is the first in a series of books on Kitchen Witchcraft she has written. The other titles deal with garden magic, the elements, altars and rituals. Being a slender book, just 131 pages long, I devoured this cover to cover over a weekend. I loved it.

I’ve been walking the Pagan path for some time now so I know a little about the subject, that being said I still learnt something new from the book. I challenge anyone to read the “Angry Egg Spell” and not have a wee chuckle whilst reading Rachel’s instructions. However, in all seriousness it’s a wonderful way of working through a problem. And one, like many of the spells, that you can do easily, and at home in the kitchen.

As with all Rachel’s books, this was a great, chatty, friendly read, with plenty of her easy humour and sensible advice. The incantations are easy to find being in italic, and the chapters are bursting with information. If you’re a novice you’ll find this a blessing, and if you’re a seasoned practitioner you will still find this a great book to dip in and out of to try new spells, or an old one with a twist. Rachel’s advice is always to trust your own intuition, and not to spend a fortune on equipment or supplies. She encourages you to add words of your own to spells, to grow in the craft not just to copy blindly. I can’t add anything to that, except to congratulate her and Moon Books on another enchanting read
